Casa de Campo
La Romana, Dominican Republic
Home of Teeth of the Dog
The name of the famed Pete Dye course comes from the jagged, "sharp-as-a-dog's-teeth" coral rock formations found along the coastline, which the local workers dubbed diente de perro (teeth of the dog).
Legacy has it that Dye loved the course so much he built a home along the 7th fairway, and upon his death in 2020, and some of his ashes were interred near the 8th green.

Highlights
The Name: The name comes from the jagged, "sharp-as-a-dog's-teeth" coral rock formations found along the coastline, which the local workers dubbed diente de perro (teeth of the dog).
Arduous Construction: In 1970–71, rather than using heavy machinery, 300 local workers used hand tools like sledgehammers, pickaxes, and chisels to forge the course from the unforgiving coral and limestone, according to Florida Golf Magazine.
"Heaven Seven": Pete Dye, the designer, famously credited himself with creating 11 holes, while "God created seven," referring to the seven holes perched directly along the sea, according to Global Hemisphere.
Hand-Carved Features: Because earth-moving equipment was limited, dirt for the greens was transported by workers using ox-drawn carts from sugarcane fields located a mile away, according to Florida Golf Magazine.
Legacy: Pete Dye loved the course so much he built a home along the 7th fairway, and upon his death in 2020, some of his ashes were interred near the 8th green.
Recent Restoration: In 2025, the course completed a major renovation under Jerry Pate, a former U.S. Open champion, to restore the original, subtle, and challenging design features, according to Bedford & New Canaan
FAQs
-
The prime season runs from November through April, when the Caribbean settles into cooler, drier weather that pairs naturally with long days on the course. Conditions are consistent, the breeze is comfortable, and the resort feels lively without being crowded.
Shoulder months like May and early June offer more availability and strong value, with warm temperatures and plenty of sunshine. -
The easiest option is La Romana International Airport (LRM), located about ten minutes from the resort. Travelers also use Punta Cana (PUJ) or Santo Domingo (SDQ), both offering frequent service from major U.S. cities.
From either airport, expect a 45–90 minute ground transfer to the property.
-
Planning 4 to 6 months out works well, especially for peak golf season in the winter and spring.
Early timelines make it easier to secure preferred tee times, villa categories, and any added experiences.
Shorter planning windows are still possible, but availability becomes more limited the closer it gets. -
Each itinerary is built differently, but an exclusive experience at Casa de Campo often includes:
Lodging in private villas or resort rooms
Preferred tee times on courses such as Teeth of the Dog® and Dye Fore
Private ground transfers and on-property golf carts
Dining arrangements, from restaurant reservations to in-villa chef services
Optional add-ons like spa appointments, fishing charters, or personalized gifts
Every trip can be shaped to match the group’s goals and the overall vision for the experience.
